Water Issues

Lake Hodges/ Olivenhain Reservoirs
San Diego Water Authority.
The water construction project on the shore of Lake Hodges, visible from Del Dios Hwy., is nearing completion.  A pipeline tunnel has been built to connect Lake Hodges with Olivenhain Reservoir to enable an exchange of water up and down about twice a day. In the winter, when the lake will hopefully be filling with rain, pumping up to Olivenhain will be more frequent.
Electricity will be generated in the process and there is an agreement with SDGE to buy it for transfer to the grid via a switchyard on the site.
Original issues associated with Lake Hodges water quality have been settled.
The impacted JPA trail from Del Dios Gorge to Lake Hodges is now open on weekends and will be completely usable by July.
Park rangers are helping with clean-up.
The San Diego Water Authority fact sheet gives a more detailed account of this important water storage project.
